Mooneyes annual end of the year hot rod and truck show brings out some of the best traditionally-styled vehicles from all over Southern California.
Every year, the folks over at Mooneyes in Norwalk, California put together a little holiday shindig to celebrate another successful year. And what started out as a little gathering in the very small parking lot at Mooneyes turned into a monster. The last year that they actually had the event at the Mooneyes facility, there were hot rods parked up and down both sides of the street out in front of the store, in every single adjacent parking lot parking lot and traffic at one point was backed up all the way to Interstate 5. Needless to say, that’s when Chico and the folks at Mooneyes decided that they were going to need a bigger facility.

So the following year they moved the whole shindig a few miles down the road to The Star Academy – which is actually the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Training Academy in Whittier, California. Needless to say, the crowd of hot rodders in their pre-1964 cars and trucks looked a little nervous that first year rolling into the Sheriff’s Academy – especially the ones with open headers! But they were welcomed with open arms and the tradition of loud music, louder hot rods and frequent burnouts lived on.

This year, as in years past, the folks from Mooneyes invited artists and hot rod builders from all across the USA to set up booths and even encouraged the pinstripers in attendance to pull vehicles in and do live demos during the show. They also had live bands playing throughout the day and we even managed to snap a few photos of The Dynotones. They even had a food vendor flipping burgers on the barbecue and some extra security guys dedicated to directing traffic to ensure that people could actually get in and out of the show without causing a major traffic jam. We would feel comfortable saying the folks over at Mooneyes thought of everything.
So at the end of 2006, if you’re looking for a place to go to see a few hundred traditionally styled hot rod pickups – or just hot rods in general – look no further than the Mooneyes Christmas Show. We have a feeling you won’t be disappointed.
